Selecting a school for your child is an important decision. In Lee County, the system of one neighborhood, one school, has been replaced with an open-enrollment system. What had become an annual ritual of redrawing school boundaries, moving children involuntarily from one school to another, to accommodate growth, has been replaced and now parents rank a variety of schools close to where they live. Once a student is enrolled in a school, parents have the assurance the student will remain at the school through the highest grade level offered unless one of the following occurs:
- the student is determined in need of a special education program not available at the assigned school;
- or the student moves into a different zone / sub-zone where the assigned school is no longer an option.
Knowing When to Register at a Student Assignment Office
Students NEW to Lee County: Parents must visit one of the Student Assignment Offices most convenient to them for registration and assignment to school.
Students moved to a new zone within Lee County: Parents of students that have moved to a new zone within Lee County must visit a student assignment office with proof of their new address in order to obtain a school within their student assignment zone.
Children who will be age five on or before September 1st of the upcoming school year should apply for kindergarten. Parents need to register their child even if they have an older child already in school – there are NO automatic assignments.
Students entering 6th or 9th grade: Parents need to register their child for assignment when their child is moving from elementary to middle school or middle to high school. If you did not receive a paper with your PIN number you will have to go to a student assignment office.
Students from a Charter or Virtual School: Students are considered reenrolling into the school district if they were enrolled in a charter or virtual school. Please choose "Reenrolling in the District" for registration requirements and forms.
